Thermal baths
Centre Thermal Yverdon-les-Bains
Switzerland's thermal town built around a sulphur spring: mineral pools at 31–35°C, open through a multi-year rebuild, with a brand-new centre due in 2027.
See & Do
Thermal water, a medieval castle, a science-fiction museum and a lake beach. Yverdon packs an unusual amount into a town you can cross on foot. Start with these.

Museum
One of the world's only museums of science fiction, utopia and extraordinary journeys, grown from one collector's vast library and housed in Yverdon's former prisons on Place Pestalozzi.
Castle & museum
A four-towered Savoyard castle on Place Pestalozzi holding the regional museum and four cultural institutions: archaeology and two Roman boats, a couturier's fashion space, the Pestalozzi rooms, and a cellar theatre.
Old town
The medieval heart of Yverdon: three straight Savoyard streets and arcaded houses around Place Pestalozzi, ringed by the castle, the science-fiction museum, a free contemporary-art centre and the Tuesday and Saturday market.
Neolithic site
A line of 45 standing stones on the lakeshore, raised more than 6,000 years ago. The most important Neolithic site in Switzerland, a Swiss cousin of Carnac, free and open at any hour.
Roman site
Little is left of the Roman fort that guarded the lake's main port, but a free app rebuilds it in augmented reality over the vestiges, and its two Roman boats now sit in the regional museum.
Nature
The family-friendly gateway to the Grande Cariçaie wetland: a nature centre in an old château with interactive exhibitions and gardens, opening onto trails and bird hides over the marsh, a few minutes east of Yverdon.
Lake & beach
Yverdon's sandy lakeside beach at the south tip of Lake Neuchâtel: shallow, family-safe water, shaded lawns with barbecues and play areas, and a watersports club, a short walk from the old town.
Nature reserve
The largest lakeside marsh in Switzerland: nearly 3,000 hectares of reedbeds and damp forest along the south shore of Lake Neuchâtel, with 50 km of trails and bird hides, home to a quarter of the country's species.
Show caves
One of Switzerland's most beautiful show caves, carved by the underground Orbe: a lit walk through lakes and draperies to "la Cathédrale," plus a mineral treasure and cheese aged in the rock. About 25 minutes from Yverdon.
