Where it is

On Lake Neuchâtel, below the Jura

Yverdon-les-Bains sits at the southern tip of Lake Neuchâtel, where the flat Orbe plain meets the first ridges of the Jura. The motorway, the main railway and the lake all converge here.

Day trips by public transport

Yverdon is the natural hub for the towns around it. Most are a short, mostly car-free hop by train, PostBus or the lake boat. Each link opens a prefilled timetable with live times.

Good to know

Other ways in

By boat

In the warmer months, scheduled passenger boats cross Lake Neuchâtel to Yverdon's harbour, linking the town with Neuchâtel, Estavayer and the lakeside villages. It is slower than the train, and that is exactly the point. Arriving by water is the most beautiful way in.

By car

Yverdon is just off the A1 motorway, exit Yverdon-Sud. The old town is compact and partly pedestrianised, so leave the car in one of the signposted car parks near the centre or the baths.

By bike

Yverdon sits on national cycle routes along the Jura foot and the Mittelland, with flat lakeside paths in every direction. It's an easy, scenic ride from Neuchâtel along the water, and a natural overnight stop for long-distance riders.

Accessibility

The lakeside and the main squares are flat and largely step-free, and the railway station is accessible. The old town has some cobbles and gentle gradients. At the Centre Thermal, the main pools are reachable step-free with pool hoists, though facilities shift during the renovation, so call ahead to confirm what's open on the day of your visit.
